Gardening for the Love of Nature

It was late summer, a few years ago, when I first started to understand the unique relationship between plants and animals. I had always loved both but never thought about how they worked together. In actuality, I had always viewed them as opposites. A self-proclaimed nature-lover I was definitely on the nature side of the fence, though once I realized that gardens could not only include, but celebrate nature, I embraced its potential, and set out to learn all I could about native plants and pollinators.

My interest in nature stems from a connection to the Muskoka landscape. A land of rocky outcrops, temperate forests, moss, lichen, swamps, and lakes; it is a place that has captured the imagination of many and also a place I have called home most my life.

Nature Gardens is a culmination of this life-long appreciation for nature coming together with gardening.Dedicating to promoting the benefits of nature--friendly practices in the garden, the vision of Nature Gardens is to show that with any garden or plot of land, no matter how small, there is an opportunity to connect with nature and make a difference in the lives of all living things - including ourselves.

Committed to Nature Appreciation

Like most things with nature, it is not a direct path but a life-long journey. There is always something new to see or more to learn. My study of nature is similar to that of a naturalist though with a specific focus on Muskoka. I invite you to share this journey with me - follow along as I share my love and appreciation for the flora and fauna of the region.

Ongoing studies include the Ontario Master Naturalist Program, Stewardship Certificate with Pollinator Partnership of Canada and garden design with the Toronto Botanical Gardens - George Brown. I'm currently doing leadership training with the Toronto Field Naturalists and look forward to presenting nature walks in the Muskoka region in the near future.
